I’m not an advocate of using coping mechanisms to get shit done and/or to live day in and day out. Coping mechanisms are passed around like chewing gum in the self-development world and in the long run they’re not sustainable. They don’t solve the problem, they only deal with the symptoms in my eyes. I believe that if you have to hype yourself up and change your state to get things done on a daily basis or even just to get out of bed in the morning then there’s part of you that doesn’t want to do it, there’s part of you that you’re not acknowledging. And until you acknowledge that part of you you’re not going to truly want to do whatever it is you have to do. Now don’t get me wrong here, there are days where you genuinely feel down or can’t be bothered I get them too, but I’m not talking about those days. I’m talking about having to change your state everyday to get through life. There are people that have to change their state even just to brush their teeth, life seems that bad for them.
Some coping mechanisms can be useful for short term fixes and I believe that if you have to use it at all then this is exactly how it should be used. In the moment, where you don’t have the time, privacy or availability to feel out what actually needs addressing and acknowledge and release it. Believe me, once you’ve acknowledged the part of you that needs acknowledging, you’ll find that you no longer need to change your state as you’ll naturally be in the best state you can be. You’ll wake up inspired to take on life and the tasks and challenges you have to face.
When you are living your life from a place of inspiration rather than “ugh I gotta get this done”, you will find that you don’t need anyone to push you, to hold you accountable, to motivate you. Your soul and ego will come more and more in to alignment with one another and the programs that were blocking you before will fade away. And trust me guys that place of inspiration, self-motivation, self-determination is where you want to be.
So when something is showing up for you and you feel the need to use a coping mechanism, be it EFT, NLP, anchoring; etc. Take a minute to ask yourself “How do I feel in this moment? What part of me doesn’t feel acknowledged?” and take the time to acknowledge that part of you that you’re not embracing and that doesn’t feel heard.
