In this episode I dig deep about loneliness and what could cause you to feel lonely. This feeling is often assigned with those who are alone but you don’t have to be alone to feel that you are. You could be a party animal with loads of friends and in the midst of the rave you feel like you’re on your own. You could be a socialite who is constantly connecting with people as you go about your everyday life, spending evenings with friends and family, going home at night feeling like you’ve been alone the whole day. It could be that you don’t have any close friends and you still feel lonely even when you do connect with people. Whatever the case may be this feeling can affect you in any circumstance if your needs aren’t being met; i.e. you don’t feel acknowledged by those around you.

Before you divulge in this episode I want you to ask yourself these three questions…

What is the one thing that will make you feel accepted?

Do you feel like the people around you understand you?

And…

How do you want to show up in the world?

I ask this because these questions are key to you feeling like you belong, feeling like you’re being acknowledged and understood. In a social setting they are the underlying features of you being able to connect with others on the level you need.

I share a story of where loneliness crept up on me and hit me like a brick! It wasn’t until I followed the thread that I came to realise the feeling I was feeling was that nobody understood me; it wasn’t that I was on my own. It may be a similar circumstance for you. You may feel lonely but actually there’s another feeling underneath that that’s mirroring loneliness.

I give you three steps to becoming more self-aware in social settings. Which will in turn help you to acknowledge your feelings and what it is you are really looking for when connecting and socialising with people.
